Very bad phone. It can free anytime and stay frozen for the life of the battery September 4, 2010 E. Iglesias (United States) It is a solid and attractive phone. the OS is very primitive and it looks like made of different software pieces poorly put together.
The main problem of this phone is that it can freeze any time for no reason. You can be in a meeting trying to use it and it will freeze and let you suffer the embarrassment in front of your colleagues with their iphones and blackberries that won't freeze as yours.
Don't buy this phone. T-Mobile needs to have a similar smartphone but running Android instead of the Windows OS.
Best phone I have ever had August 30, 2010 J. B Davison (PA) I have heard soo many complaints about this phone but I just couldn't ignore it for the price without giving it a try. I have had the phone for a week now and it has not crashed once. I have tried to take advantage of alot of the features over the week like the Facebook and Twitter integrations, camera, text messaging, music, videos, etc...not one issue. So anyone reading all the crashing complaints, don't be afraid to give it a try but you should have atleast 2 weeks to see for yourself. My guess is people are installing things they probably shouldn't be and never flashed the newest rom for the phone. Also XDA Developers has alot of useful tips to help avoid any of the issues and improve the battery life. Check out this post:[...]
First off, the screen is beautiful. Watching Transformers really shows off the hardware's capabilities. Youtube videos also look good but depends on the quality of the video. I have not tried the Mobi TV and Blockbuster apps yet and probably never will. It probably makes more sense to invest in a SlingBox rather than paying for these services.
I thought the UI was fairly easy to figure out and manuever. For all the crap I have read on how horrible WinMo is, it looks more like people are being anti Microsoft to me than anything else. Everything operates smoothly and the ui doesn't look outdated to me. It not flashy but it is clean and easy to use. The only grip I have with the WinMo os so far is clicking on the x just hides the app and does not close it. This may be another posibility for people having issues with crashing.
The only major complaint I have with this phone is the battery life is horrible. I have made some tweaks to improve this but I have not tested it extensively yet to see how much it really helps. Lately I have had my phone plugged into my laptop to share the phones internet connection which performs very well.
So to sum it up, I love this phone and unless something drastic occurs over the next few days, I will be keeping it for quite some time. Don't be afraid to give this phone a try because I don't think you will regret it.
Great phone packed w/ features (and some minor hiccups) August 28, 2010 Michael Zhang (New York, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The HD2, HTC's latest (and possibly last) Windows phone is great for anyone who wants a phone that takes great pictures, gets the weather, browses the web (facebook, myspace, twitter apps are included/downloadable), and plays music. The Sense UI is incredibly polished and refined, so everything the general user needs is basically on the home screen. For the more Windows-heavy users, there is Microsoft office on the phone that supports Word, PPT, etc.
Personally, I bought the phone for its simpler features such as the aforementioned abilities, so I won't be getting into the more technical aspects of the phone. The camera is 5 MP, and the pictures it takes are incredibly sharp. I know with the release of the Droid X, phone cameras are held to a higher standard than they ever were before. But if you're looking into a GSM phone with a great camera, then the HD2 has it. The videos it takes are in HQ, not HD. But for all practical purposes, it was enough. I found the videos it took to be very crisp and sharp, as long as there wasn't any erratic shaking of the phone.
The music player on the phone's slightly harder to get accustomed to, especially if you're someone (like me) who's used to Apple's streamlined and extremely simplified iTunes sync process. But I found it to be manageable by googling the method. For those of you who use Windows Media Player instead, the sync process is almost the same as iTunes. The whole process is just as smooth and streamlined.
I regularly use the native facebook app and the twitter and myspace apps work fine as well. There are two mobile browsers on the phone. One is Opera and the other is Internet Explorer. I use Opera and it's a very good browser. The speed of loading pages is faster than the iPhone 3GS (by a hair) and there is the added benefit of flash support (cue cheering).
Google Maps is also supported by a native application on the phone and it's incredibly useful if you're looking to find a location on the go. GPS support allow it to pinpoint your location. And in my experiences, the GPS was always accurate on where I was.
By that same note, there is a native application called "Footprints" which allows you to take pictures and gives you the longitude and latitude of where the photo was taken. Some of you might be familiar with the term "geotagging". This is it.
The only downsides: the phone sometimes (very rarely, in my experience) doesn't respond when you're trying to wake up the phone by pressing a button to activate the touch screen. In this instance, you must either take the battery out or press the yellow soft reset button to restart the phone without any loss of saved data.
I've had this phone for 2 months now and I can confidently say that it replaced 3 electronics that I always use: my iPod, camera, and old phone. That integration was enough to convince me to buy it since it juggles those uses very well.
In summary:
Pros:
- Great camera + video quality
- Slim design + huge 4.3 responsive capacitative touch screen (great for watching videos/photos too)
- Great call quality
- Lots of intuitive things to appreciate (screen auto-deactivates when you answer a call to prevent unwanted touches, auto-ring dimmer, etc.)
- Good web browsing experience (better than the iPhone's)
Cons:
- Random unresponsive blank screen (easily fixable and doesn't arise too often)
nice hardware bad os August 24, 2010 soulstarxx 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
this phone looks great. it has great features and the screen size is great. as far as windows mobile 6.5 goes. it isnt for me. htc tried with their sense ui by adding cool effects and their htc widgets but it isnt enough. the wm apps are pricey and useless and the phone itself gets boring after awhile. if ur new to smart phones i recommend but if your coming from an iphone or an android device dont get this. but there is a way to flash android on this phone and running android on this phone is amazing.
Love the phone but not the OS August 24, 2010 Kevin J. Lane 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
