"The jungle V.I.P." December 14, 2008 Annie Van Auken (Planet Earth) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
THE JUNGLE BOOK was the last movie that Walt Disney directly oversaw. The finished picture in no way resembles Rudyard Kipling's original story, as Disney felt this was too dark for a cartoon. With top notch songs like "The Bear Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You," talented performers and animation that was part Xerox, part hand drawn, "The Jungle Book" is a fitting career closer from the greatest name in family motion picture entertainment, Walt Disney.
This movie is also available on DVD.
After "Jungle Book," the next Disney animated feature was THE ARISTOCATS (1970). (VHS edition) (DVD edition)
Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 viewer poll rating found at a film research website.

JUNGLE BOOK TRIVIA--
The Beatles were to record voiceovers for "The Vultures," but conflicting schedules made it impossible.
The song "Trust in Me," originally called "Sands of Time," was almost used in MARY POPPINS (1964). (VHS edition) (widescreen DVD edition)
The elephant Winifred is the only female with dialogue.
According to Kipling's widow, the name "Mowgli" is actually pronounced "MAU-glee."
"Baloo" means "bear" in Hindi.
Jungle Book March 26, 2007 In this book, a boy named Mowgli is taken away from the jungle to live in a village. He does not want to go to the village. He meets Baloo the Bear who agrees with him. But Bageera the Panther says Shere Khan the Tiger will eat him. Shere Khan does attack him but (spoiler warning)they fight him and Mowgli meets a beautiful girl from the village who lures him to the village.
A great Disney classic September 9, 2003 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
The jungle book is about a human boy named Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, until it is decided that he can't stay in the jungle anymore. Bagheera has problems getting Mowgli back to the man village, because Mowgli dosen't want to leave the jungle. Then Mowgli meets baloo the bear. After an encounter with the mad King Louie of the apes, and pressed to return to the man village by Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli runs away. Later on, Mowgli meets Shere Khan, the tiger. I can't tell you what happens at the end, you'll have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, halfway through the production of the jungle book, Walt Disney died. If you want more jungle fun, be sure to check out The Jungle book 2.
