Amazon.com Review The PixOs Super Studio allows young children to explore their creative impulses and make various two- and three-dimensional creations and designs. With no ink or mess, the PixOs Super Studio is a clean and easy way for children aged four and up to get started with art. You're child will be thrilled when he or she presents you with an original sculpture. Because of the many small pieces, this studio is not appropriate for small children who need constant supervision during playtime.

The fan helps designs dry and set more quickly. View larger. | | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Fun studio unit stimulates creativity and lets children create art.
The Bad: Takes awhile to dry; small balls can be swallowed and lost; fan not very strong.
In a Nutshell: Kids can create and display fun, easy-to-make art with the PixOs Super Studio, but watch out for the small pieces. | At a Glance Ages: 4 and up Requires: Two AAA Batteries to operate fan (not included) | | | Easy, Clean Art The Super Studio requires some assembly, which a parent will most likely have to do. Don't worry: set-up is simple. The PixOs Super Studio works by allowing kids to create art by using small balls called PixOs that will stick to each other if lightly sprayed with water and allowed to dry. There are different colored PixOs, and children create designs (using templates or with their own imagination) by using the "pen" to place the PixOs on a grid-like tray. An included "eraser" makes it easy to remove a misplaced PixO. After the child is done with a design, he or she lightly sprays it with water using the included spray bottle, and puts it underneath the fan to dry. When dry, the finished piece can be removed from the tray and placed it wherever you'd like. We made a cute, colorful cat, then gave her a dog for a playmate soon after. Once we understood how it worked, we were able to whip up new designs and art quickly. Just be certain that the designs are fully dry. It took a bit longer than we expected, and we accidentally ruined a cherry because we picked it up off the plate before the PixOs were sufficiently dry and stuck together. Please note that the PixOs are tiny. Although the recommended age on the box says four and up, we believe that children on the younger end of the scale might require supervision, especially if they are inclined to swallow things. Additionally, the fan requires two AA batteries to operate, but we found that the fan was too weak to really speed up the drying process; instead we placed our finished PixOs designs by an open window to save on batteries. Different Templates Make Learning Fun Included are six template designs of varying degrees of difficulty that will help you get accustomed to using the studio. With the templates, kids can make strawberries, cherries, cats, dogs, and more! Some of the designs are three-dimensional, so they can stand on their own. Once these templates have been mastered, kids can create whatever they want and will only be limited by their imaginations. What's in the Box 500 PixOs, PixOs Sorter and Dispenser, six template designs, two trays, water sprayer, standard instructions, 3-d instructions.

Pleased January 6, 2009 Mary R. Simon Despite poor reviews, I purchased this product for my 5 year old son for Christmas. Although we have only had it for a couple of weeks, I am pleased with the product. Based on the other reviews I was concerned that it would just be frustrating, but he has thoroughly enjoyed it, and we now have more Pixo art that one could ever hope for. My son has excellent gross motor skills, but poor fine motor skills. The dispenser works well, and he is easily able to manipulate the little wand. There is virtually no mess, and it keeps my son busy for a long time. That being said, I have followed other reviewers' instructions to completely saturate the design with water, and let it dry overnight. To speed drying, we set the tray on the heat vent or on the warm clothes dryer. The items my son has made have been durable and have so far withstood play and abuse from my 3 year old.
Great toy January 6, 2009 D. Pinnell (Missouri) My granddaughters love this toy. One is 9 and the other 4. It is easy to use, not messy. Replacement PixO's are not expensive. You can use their premade designs or your own. The 4 year old needs a little help with the pen, but she still can do most on her own.
not for four year old January 6, 2009 Elise Ruggles (North Shore, MA) I would not recommend this to 4 yr old parents. THe pixo beads are much smaller than they appear on TV .Also you need a lot of beads to make several designs, we are already running out, since Xmas, having made 6 or 8 designs. The 'studio' basically is a housing for a plastic tube that drops beads out one at at time, the only battery operated part is the fan that dries your creation. Definitely buy this only after you have seen it in person. I feel it was a ripoff.
PixOs fun January 6, 2009 Vee Maisel (Mesa, AZ) I actually purchased two of these; one as a Santa gift and one for my granddaugther. My 4 year old granddaughter enjoys creating designs with it. This toy improves a child's hand/eye coordination and prompts their imagination. I am very pleased with PixOx Super Studio. And I was grateful I ordered a refill as there were not enough PixOs with the Super Studio. Vee Maisel
Does not work - wasted money January 4, 2009 Judy L. Cox (Ohio, USA) I really didn't plan to purchase this for our boys, however, they managed to talk grandma into it... knowing this, I went ahead and bought a couple extra add-on packs (each contained an extra 750). I figured the kids would go through the little amount of pixos included with the original package (something around 550). I wish I'd waited, as we haven't even opened the extra packs (need to dig through purse for receipt)... the original pixos toy ended up being no fun at all. It comes with two dotted trays, one with inline holes and the other with diagonal holes, used to place your pixos or dots to create your design. Unfortunately, most of the pixos don't touch, so regardless of how much water you spray (which, btw, you are warned not to spray TOO much) the pixos just won't touch, thus not sticking. The few that do actually stick to each other come apart so easily getting it out of the tray is impossible. Too much water and the little fan in back won't dry the pixos. What a waste of money. The kids were disappointed (not to mention frustrated), but I used this as another means to explain how things don't always look as fun as they seem to make them on TV. (Now, if I could just talk my littest boy(4) into trusting me that he does not need the eyelash twirler he sees on tv, things would be better, ha!)
