Defective by design July 30, 2010 B. Sims (SoCal) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
The game itself is fun, looks nice, and is entertaining. What is unacceptable however is that it requires internet access to play the single player campaign, and you are forever tied to only one user per game. You can't create multiple characters for different members of the family. You get one game per person per sixty bucks. No Lan. Blizzard has gone way over the top on the DRM here, and it's not acceptable. Instead of punishing honest players with cumbersome and limiting DRM, you should provide incentives to spend the money and buy the game. Here with this game Blizzard is saying, "You're all pirates, and we're locking down the game. We don't care". The proper business model is to release a good product with reasonable protection- then follow it up with incentives for registered purchasers; new maps, units, modes, patches, etc. Reward your customers for good behavior, not the other way around. Without your customers, you have nothing.
Then there is the fact that Blizzard has taken the money grubbing path of releasing the game in three parts to maximize their income. This is essentially one third of a game at a full premium game price. Analysts predict a close to 50% margin all told on this game, and estimate 6 million plus in sales by the end of 2010. Lets do the math..thats easily over a hundred million in profit this year alone. To shaft your core audience with one third of a game, no lan, one person per installation only, a premium price, and phone home DRM required, well thats just bad. I can not recommend this game. Wait until its half the price it currently is, and these problems get fixed before buying.
Vote with your wallet.... July 30, 2010 D. Fletcher 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I will not buy this game simply because of the invasive DRM. I have shelf after shelf of video games that I bought, but they are getting old now and I will not buy a video game that isn't mine after I buy it. I will just live without. I waited a long time for Starcraft II, and now I'll wait even longer for the next non-invasive computer game.
So far not impressed...activation tip:use fake name/acct so u can sell if not liking July 30, 2010 K. Maynes (Corbin, KY) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
So far not impresses]d...similar to the original (which is fine) with new units and graphics.....The graphic so far do not impress me, and the game seems slow paced so far.....and the biggest thing is once you get and activate..you can not sell or transfer your account.....You can edit email address and mailing address, but not name.....If I had it to do again, I would use a made up name / nickname, and I would be selling like that...I could update the address and email for whoever bought it, only thing they would have to go by made up name...but for a good price, I am sure someone out there would not mind.....So I reccomended, playing first at a friends house, demo, etc....or if you get without playing first, use a made up name/account...so you can sell if you don't like...I wish I would have done this, so I could sell - but guess I am stuck with it...O well guess I'll think twice before I buy a Blizzard game again, since they are trying to lock you to it.
Slow as hell on mac July 30, 2010 S. Westhafer (San Jose, CA) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The game feels really unpolished at this point... lots of fit and finish problems that I'm not quite as used to for a blizzard launch. Mac support is next to nil. Performance on OSX feels like 1/2 the same when I boot through windows.
Fairly disappointed with how the game is right now :(
