Back to Then October 2, 2008 Rudy Darius Rucker has a spectacular voice. The CD is not spectactular, but it is nice, easy listening.
Amazing... September 23, 2008 M. Gilliam This has to be the most incredible album i have ever heard. There are very few albums that i will listen to from start to finish and this tops the list. I am a Hootie and the Blowfish fan but once i found out Darius was completing a R&B album i decided to go out and buy it. I have never regretted that decision. Thank you Amazon for finally offering this album in MP3 download. I lost the CD when i moved to my new job. If you are a true R&B fan it is hard to find a better CD.
Very good album... if you like Soul/R&B August 30, 2008 Tony Corleone (Illinois, USA) The other reviewers here are right: this is not for people strictly into rock and southern music. I am a fan of soul & R&B, but I do like Hootie & The Blowfish, so this album piqued my interest. I decided to download it, and I'm glad I did. It's a very high-quality album with great production. If you are blindly buying this album expecting a solo Hootie & The Blowfish-style album, then you will be letdown. If you like Rucker's vocals and R&B/Soul music, then you can't go wrong here. Now, let there be no mistakes: this DOES have rock elements in it. It's not as if Rucker has totally ditched his style of music and walked into a different world. What he has done is adapted his gritty vocals and his guitar rock elements and applied them to a different genre of music. He's very true to his craft, which is why I like this album. This is a perfect solo debut album.
The REAL Darius Rucker!! August 25, 2008 Shannon This is the best cd I own. I am the biggest Hootie fan ever, I can't remember how many times I have seen them live. They are by far the most versatile band ever doing cover songs better than the original band ie. Interstate Love Song by STP. When Darius released this solo album I had to bite. His soulful voice can sing anything. I was blown away!!!! This is the real Darius Rucker. You will not be disappointed if you add this cd to your basket along with the new country cd. I have not heard the "country cd", but it cannot be better than this cd, but I hope it pays the bills.
Don't call him Hootie!!! How did I miss this??? April 6, 2008 Ramblin' Fox (Philadelphia) First all I must say, I'm a little partial to Hidden Beach label artists....Darius Rucker, Back To Then, was recorded on the Hidden Beach label. If I had the cheddar to start a record label, I would definitely have an artist lineup similar to Hidden Beach... With that said, this CD is GREAT!! I must admit that I fell asleep on it when it was release back in 2002... However, when music is done right, it's timeless... This CD is in my car NOW, April 2008... I've had it in my changer for the past 8 months. I LOVE it!!! As one reviewer said, if you're looking for Hootie and the Blowfish, well this may not be your cup of tea, but I would still give it a try if I was you. This CD is a mixture of gritty R&B and neo-soul... As much as I love Hidden Beach, I blamed them for not promoting this project successfully, because this CD is GOOD. It should not have been slept on, Darius has name recognition....I'm sorry, I digressed.... Anyway, my favorites are Wild One, Sometimes I Wonder (a duet with Jill Scott), One More Night, Ten Years.... Really the entire CD is good... According to Darius website, his next solo project will be a country set on Capitol Records...... Let the church say, "Well?"
