Adolescence is an emotionally stormy time for kids, but it's especially so for Shane (Josh Hutcherson), a teenager being raised by single firefighter father Connor (Bruce Greenwood). Add the recent death of Shane's fire-captain uncle (Connor's brother) in the line of duty and the pending closure of their neighborhood "Dogpatch" fire station, and both Shane's propensity for skipping school and brooding in his room and his father's obsession with work seem easily explainable. When a mutt called Dewey, really a very spoiled superstar dog named Rexxx who's been presumed dead after a parachuting stunt gone wrong, turns up in a burning building and is rescued by the Dogpatch crew, Connor puts Shane in charge of caring for the dog and finding its owner. Shane and Dewey clash immediately and Shane is extremely resentful toward both the dog and his father. However, Dewey's special talents (like skateboarding and trampoline jumping), combined with his good fire-fighting instincts, soon win the admiration and affection of Shane and the entire Dogpatch crew. A series of mysterious fires causes Shane and Connor to begin to really communicate and reconnect, but those fires also threaten their very lives. At the same time, Dewey's former owner discovers Dewey's true identity and demands the return of his superstar companion. An engaging dog story that explores the difficulties of growing up and dealing with personal tragedy, Firehouse Dog is a fun family film that's rated PG due to some mildly crude humor (think potty jokes), language, and action peril. --Tami Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars unexpected joy   December 4, 2008

I found this movie quite unexpectedly and find I really enjoy it. It is a fun movie and enjoyable, especially by pet lovers.

3 out of 5 stars Great Movie Bad Shipping   September 21, 2008
Lily Rose (USA)
This is a great movie. The whole family loves it, however shipping was terrible. The DVD was dislodged from the case and is scratched. Only the end of the movie is hard the veiw. I will never buy a DVD from the internet. Next time I will go to the store.

5 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable   August 31, 2008
S William Shaw (The Nether)
I have to admit, being a veteran of waaaaay too many children's flicks, especially those with animals, I was expecting the worst from this film. But, being a good dad, I sat down with my children and hit play. And I loved Firehouse Dog!

Firehouse Dog is the story of a fireman father and his son, Connor and Shane Fahey (played by Bruce Greenwood and Josh Hutcherson), who have a relationship on the rocks until Dewey the Dog comes along and saves everything.

This movie has pretty much everything that you want from a good, entertaining family flick. Good story. Lots of laughs. A solid mystery. And a happy ending. Oh, and let me praise one more aspect of the movie: the dog DOESN'T talk. Can you believe that? I couldn't.

If you are looking for a quality film for your family to watch, and something that hasn't been done a thousand times over, Firehouse Dog is for you.

3 out of 5 stars GOOD FAMILY FRIENDLY COMEDY!   August 10, 2008
! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA)

OK my friends here at Amazon, please don't come down on me too hard for liking this fairly fun, if predictable comedy. It's not going to win any awards and it doesn't break any new ground, but over all, I enjoyed this film. There are some corny jokes that fall flat, but most of it works. This is a fantasy film, so be prepared to just let all credibility go. It's cute, harmless and better than most of these types of pictures. Dog lovers should enjoy the credit role at the end.

Product was received within one week after placing order. It was in great shape as the seller stated. I would recommend others in buying from this seller.
